Hunter H. Hewell

Born in San Antonio, and raised in Seguin, I have always claimed the Seguin/New Braunfels region (soon to be metroplex?) as my home. As my family has resided in various areas of south Texas for generations, I have always felt a desire to live, work, and raise my family here and am proud to once again be a part of the communities that raised me.

While both of my parents are lawyers, neither of them practiced during my lifetime. However, they both imparted the practicality and versatility of pursuing a career in the law, and both of their careers in other fields showed me the depths of what a law degree can help you achieve. As the owners and operators of Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, my parents also taught me the importance of taking care of your community. Through working funerals with my father growing up, I learned to care for others, even when it’s difficult or uncomfortable.

Upon graduating from high school, I attended Baylor University (Sic ‘Em Bears), where I graduated with honors with a degree in journalism and minor in film. During my time at Baylor, I was a sportswriter for the Baylor Lariat, primarily covering men’s and women’s basketball. I was also a radio color analyst for the Baylor Lariat Student Radio station calling Lady Bear’s basketball games. As a lover of all things Texana and Texas music, I wrote my honors thesis on the vaunted Texas songwriter and musician, Townes Van Zandt, taking a slightly philosophical approach at examining his work.

After graduation from Baylor, I attended the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center (Geaux Tigers!) where I would receive my Juris Doctorate, cum laude. During my time at LSU, I was a member of the Louisiana Law Review both as a junior and senior associate. I also completed an externship in the Middle District of Louisiana under Judge John W. deGravelles, and in my second and third years, served as a tutor for Constitutional Law I and Civil Procedure I for first year students.

After moving back to Texas from the foreign nation of Louisiana, I knew that I wanted to be back in south Texas. After passing the bar  and prior to joining the firm, I opened my own office in Seguin,  where I assisted clients in real estate, estate planning and probate, and business transactions, which is where my focus still lies today. I enjoy assisting clients in wading through those necessary but complex aspects of life, which help them to have peace of mind about the future or more effectively operate their local business.

In my free time, I enjoy many different hobbies. Most chiefly among them are watching college sports, writing (songwriting and sports – you can read my football column in the fall in the Seguin Gazette), playing guitar, fishing, being involved at our church, Hays Hills Baptist, and spending time with my wife and family.
